India is experiencing the world’s worst outbreak of Covid-19 cases with new cases staying well above 300,000 every day. These numbers translate to heart-wrenching tragedy. The need for immediate aid to address the lack of vaccines, oxygen and hospital beds is dire.
At Maggie’s Organics we have always been committed to a truly fair and transparent relationship with all our producers. The farmers, ginners, spinners, knitters, dyers, cut and sewers that are part of our team in India are now living under horrific circumstances. They are safe so far and when we asked how to support them, their response was, “Please send us your thoughts and prayers” and we are asking everyone to do so.
We are also continuing our commitment to treat our suppliers as true partners (it is what we call “real fair trade”). This means we are ordering ahead on several of our everyday Essentials and Leggings, and we are working on ways to use fabrics already in stock. Since we prepay our farmers for their cotton, we are confident that inventory is available for our sewers. Our orders ensure that workers can sew and have work available, regardless of who or how many of the team can come in.
You may start to see new or limited edition colors and styles on our websites, and we ask for your support and cooperation as we all work to get through these challenges and find ways to assist our partners.
Our most important priority and concern is the health and safety of the team in India. We ask that you continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and we will support them in any way possible.
