Why aren't your socks 100% cotton or wool?

A small percentage of synthetic fiber (typically nylon or spandex) is needed for durability and stretch. Without it, socks would wear through quickly and lose their shape. The FTC requires accurate fiber content labeling, so we list every fiber used.

I have a latex allergy. Do your products contain latex?

No, Maggie's products do not contain latex. We also offer our Allergy Crew socks, which are specifically designed for people with sensitivities.

I have allergies to detergents. How are your products processed?

Our products are scoured using GOTS-compliant processes, which means no harsh chemicals or detergents are used in cleaning the raw fiber. This makes them suitable for people with chemical sensitivities.

What does 'natural' mean for your products?

When we say natural, we mean our products are made with organic fiber that has been minimally processed. We avoid synthetic dyes, chemical bleaches, and unnecessary treatments to keep the fiber as close to its natural state as possible.

Are your colored products dyed with natural dyes?

We use low-impact eco dyes that meet GOTS standards. While not all dyes are plant-derived, they are certified to be free of toxic heavy metals and harmful chemicals. Low-impact dyes have a high absorption rate, meaning less water waste.

What does 'naturally bleached' mean?

Our white products are bleached with hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen, making it much safer for the environment and for people with chemical sensitivities.

Will your apparel shrink?

Organic cotton apparel may shrink 5-7% after the first wash, which is normal for natural fibers. We recommend washing in cold water and line drying when possible. Our socks are designed to stretch back to shape after washing.

How long do your socks last?

With proper care, our socks last a long time. We recommend always wearing them with shoes to prevent premature wear on the sole. Washing in cold water and avoiding the dryer when possible will extend their life.

For men's socks, size L fits shoe sizes 8-12 and size XL fits shoe sizes 12.5 and up. Most of our apparel includes detailed size charts on each product page.

We are a Fair Trade Federation Verified member and a WFTO Guaranteed Member. We support the Clean Clothes Campaign and maintain direct contracts with our manufacturing partners. Our supply chain is audited by third-party organizations to ensure fair wages and safe working conditions.

All Maggie's products are vegan except those in our Organic Merino Wool line. Our cotton, accessories, and home goods contain no animal-derived materials.

Where does your wool come from?

Our merino wool is certified organic and sourced from farms that follow USDA livestock standards. The sheep are raised humanely without mulesing, and the wool meets organic certification requirements for animal welfare.

We previously sourced hemp from a French cooperative, but they discontinued production. We are actively seeking a new certified organic hemp source that meets our quality and ethical standards.

Why don't you sell bamboo products?

The process of converting bamboo into fabric (rayon/viscose) involves toxic chemicals that remove the natural antibacterial and moisture-wicking properties of the raw bamboo. The resulting fabric is essentially a semi-synthetic material, which doesn't align with our commitment to truly natural fibers.

Why do colors vary between batches?

Because we use low-impact eco dyes, slight color variations between production runs are normal. This is a natural characteristic of environmentally responsible dyeing. If you're unsatisfied with the color, we accept returns within 30 days.

What kind of packaging do you use?

Accepted Answer

We reuse shipping boxes whenever possible, use recycled paper for packing material, hemp string instead of plastic tape where we can, and safety pins instead of plastic tags. We're always looking for ways to reduce packaging waste.
